Okay moms here is another Maryland community post. Today we are introducing you to Frederick Moms and Doulas ran and operated by Brittany DeFrehn and Sarah Hetrick.
Tell me about your business:
Frederick Moms and Doulas is a female and mom, owned and operated business that provides doulas services, childbirth education, and postpartum services to moms in and around Frederick, MD. We pride ourselves in providing non-bias, evidenced-based care, and strive to educate, elevate, and empower women into motherhood.
We are very involved in our community running an annual diaper drive to provide diapers to families in need. We also have a Bundle All the Babies drive that collects coats and blankets to give back to our community.
How did you get started?
FMD started with two friends who had a common bond, helping moms. Brittany had been a wedding photographer for 8 years, and although she loved weddings, her heart was always with following the family. Sarah had two doulas for the birth of her daughter and knew that she needed to be that person for other women. After 13 years of friendship, we decided to create Frederick Moms and Doulas to make our passions our career. Since starting we have hired another birth doula to our team, Alison, and a postpartum doula, Mary. We feel we are unique in the fact that we approach every client as a team, and follow women from before they get pregnant, all the way through the first year postpartum.
What’s your favorite part about your business?
We call our work “heart” work because helping moms in whatever capacity fills us up. Creating relationships with the families we work with is definitely our favorite part. Seeing women and men become parents for the first time, and the instant bond that is created is magical.
Anything you’re looking to do next, new products, services, etc. that you would like to share?
We also run NEST Frederick, which is the overarching community of moms in our area that are involved in our community mission and support groups. We host NEST groups for women that have delivered their babies around the same time as one another. We meet for six months to “nurture, empower, and strengthen together.” NEST has become very popular and is growing rapidly. It is our goal to continue to grow NEST in the coming year as the go-to place for moms to find the resources they need in their motherhood journey. Whether that be doula services, photography, postpartum groups, massage, lactation support, yoga, and more. Creating a place where moms know they are supported and have a “nest” to go to is very close to our hearts.
