Preparing for Your First 3D/4D Ultrasound Before Baby Arrives : Insider Tips from Ultrasound Tech, Beth
Seeing your unborn baby on a screen for the first time is something you’ll never forget.
3D/4D ultrasounds give parents the chance to bond with their babies before they’ve even been born – from their facial features and expressions to how they move in real-time.
I’m thrilled to present an exclusive interview with one of YOUR CITY’s finest, Beth of Baby Joy 3D/4D Ultrasound sharing some lesser known reasons you might consider getting a 3D/4D Ultrasound and what to expect throughout the experience.
Is there an optimal time during my pregnancy when I should schedule a 3D/4D ultrasound for the best pictures?
The ideal time for a Prenatal 3D/4D Ultrasound is between 26 and 36 weeks, though it depends on factors such as the baby’s position, the amount of amniotic fluid, and the mother’s body type. In some cases, we have been able to capture stunning 3D/4D images of the baby even after 36 weeks of pregnancy.
How long does the 3D/4D Ultrasound Experience take?
You can expect the entire process, from check-in to check-out, to take no more than one hour. The length of the scanning itself depends on how well the baby is cooperating. If the baby is in a good position, the scan usually takes about 20-30 minutes. If the baby isn’t in the ideal position, we may ask you to drink water, move around, or even use the bathroom, which can take more time than expected. If the baby is still not in the right position after all the effort, we’ll schedule a free follow-up session.
What’s something you wish more people knew about Baby Ultrasound Technology and what you do?
I wish expectant moms knew they don’t have to wait for their doctor’s appointment to learn about their pregnancy. Many moms-to-be face weeks of waiting before seeing their doctor, leaving them anxious and uncertain. I want them to know that our office offers same-day appointments, providing peace of mind by giving them immediate insights into the status of their pregnancy with the Safety of 3D Ultrasound
Are there any misconceptions about 3D/4D ultrasounds that you’d like to dispel?
3D/4D ultrasounds are riskier than 2D ultrasounds: Some people may believe that 3D and 4D ultrasounds pose a greater risk to the baby due to the more complex technology used. However, there is no evidence to suggest that these types of ultrasounds are any more harmful than 2D ultrasounds when performed by a trained professional.
3D/4D ultrasounds can replace medical scans: 3D and 4D ultrasounds are often used for non-medical purposes, such as creating a “baby keepsake.” They should not replace standard prenatal care, including 2D ultrasounds and other medical evaluations, which are crucial for ensuring the health of both the mother and baby.
3D/4D ultrasounds can always capture clear images: The quality of 3D and 4D images can be influenced by various factors, such as the gestational age, the baby’s position, the amount of amniotic fluid, and maternal body type. Not every baby will be in a position that allows for clear 3D/4D images.
How do you handle situations when a Pregnancy 4D Ultrasound may reveal potential health issues with the baby?
While doing an elective ultrasound session, even though the scan may be elective and not for diagnostic purposes, identifying serious abnormalities that could affect the baby’s health is part of our responsibility as a healthcare provider. During this event, we inform the patients about the findings and advise them to seek further medical evaluation with their doctors.
